Campaign Hits Halfway Points as Premiers go to DC

Ontario PC Party

• While in Brampton, PC candidate Prabmeet Sarkaria announced that a re-elected PC government will support the construction of GO 2.0, the next generation of passenger train service in the Greater Golden Horseshoe. This plan includes new GO lines and stations while creating jobs for Ontario workers. (See more)

• Doug Ford made a stop in Scarborough and announced his plan to create new jobs for workers by tunnelling under Highway 401 to build a new driver and transit expressway. As part of the $15 billion in new infrastructure investments, Ford aims to speed up other infrastructure projects for the region as well. (See more)

• While in Niagara-on-the-lake, Doug Ford outlined the PC’s plan to combat illicit drug and illegal border activity in Ontario. Launched earlier this year, this initiative is built on Operation Deterrence, using new technology to detect, disrupt, and deter illegal activity. (See more)

• In Oakville, Doug Ford announced he will ban Chinese components from all future energy procurements. This includes banning any Chinese state-owned enterprise from buying or taking equity in any Ontario government funded energy, critical mineral or major infrastructure asset. (See more)

• Doug Ford made a stop in Washington, D.C., where he addressed the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business organization. Joined by Canadian and U.S. business leaders, he emphasized the importance of working together to create jobs and strengthen economic growth on both sides of the border. (See more)

• While in Windsor, candidate Prabmeet Sarkaria detailed the PC plan to protect local workers and invest in infrastructure amid President Trump’s tariff threats. The plan will commit $22 billion to projects like a new Highway 401 interchange and the Lauzon Parkway extension that will support trade between the U.S. and Canada.(See more)

• Doug Ford received additional endorsements from the Ontario Pipe Trade Council, OPCMIA Local 598, Merit Openshop Contractors Association, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793, and Unifor Local 47.

Ontario Liberal Party

• Bonnie Crombie expanded on her healthcare plan, outlining her goals to attract domestic and international doctors, strengthen the Ontario Health Team network, modernize family medicine, and eliminate penalties for patients and doctors who seek care at walk-in clinics. (See more)

• Crombie also introduced her plan to restore hope for Ontario’s next generation. The plan aims to cut unemployment in half, make education and daily life more affordable, and ensure every young person has access to a family doctor. (See more)

Ontario NDP

• In Hamilton, Marit Stiles announced her plan to support renters. As part of the NDP’s Homes Ontario initiative, the party promises to enforce rent control, legalize more housing, and restrict short-term rentals such as Airbnbs. (See more)

• Marit Stiles made a stop in Sault Ste. Marie where she announced her Family Health Guarantee, promising to get every Ontarian access to a family doctor. She promised to recruit and support new doctors, expand healthcare in Northern Ontario, cut red tape, and increase residency spots province-wide. (See more)

• Stiles also announced the NDP’s monthly grocery rebate to offset the rising cost of groceries, calculated by how much the cost of essential groceries have increased under Ford. (See more)

• In Toronto, Marit Stiles joined Erin Ariss from the Ontario Nurses Association and Laura Walton from the Ontario Federation of Labour to commit to safe staffing ratios in hospitals. This plan includes ending the reliance on private, for-profit nursing agencies and hiring at least 15,000 nurses over the next three years. (See more)

• Marit Stiles criticized the Liberals' healthcare plan, stating they invented “hallway healthcare.” She pointed out that under their leadership, 1.8 million people were left without a family doctor, 5,500 nursing positions were eliminated, and $27 million was cut from Hamilton Health Sciences.
