44th Parliament opens with Speech from the Throne, lays out agenda and priorities for Trudeau’s 3rd term and post-pandemic recovery
This afternoon in Ottawa, the Trudeau Government delivered its fourth Speech from the Throne since first coming into office in 2015. The speech, entitled “Building a Resilient Economy: A cleaner & healthier future for our kids” was delivered by Her Excellency, the Governor General Mary May Simon in the Senate Chamber. The Throne Speech officially kicks off the first session of the 44th Parliament. The abbreviated document clocks in much shorter than past renditions, at a crisp 26 pages (32 minutes). However, it covers considerable ground, laying out the blueprint for the Trudeau Government’s third term by reiterating many of the key themes we saw throughout the election. These key themes are as follows:
· Reconciliation
· Environment and Climate Change
· COVID-19: Getting the Pandemic Under Control
· Safe Communities
· Social Policy: Housing
· Diversity and Inclusion, and Culture
