ABOUT
Joe brings over 40 years of experience in politics and public affairs enabling him to provide strategic insights into progressive politics for Sussex clients. He is a Professor and the Program Coordinator in the Government Relations graduate certificate program at Seneca Polytechnic in Toronto. He also taught at Toronto Metropolitan University (Advocacy & Government Relations) and the Labour College of Canada in Ottawa (Canadian politics).
Joe had been special assistant to two provincial cabinet ministers, and worked in strategic research, municipal affairs, grassroots campaigns, and consulting at all three levels of government. He was also senior partner and president at two boutique public affairs consultancies where he provided client support in advocacy training, lobbying, and government relations program development.
An experienced political strategist, organizer, and campaign manager, he managed election campaigns in eight provinces and held senior positions in federal and provincial leadership campaigns including as federal leadership campaign director.
Joe is also a four-term president, past president, and Life Member of the Public Affairs Association of Canada (PAAC) and was the longest-serving member of the PAAC Board of Directors. In September 2023, Joe was elected to the board of Catholic Crosscultural Services (CCS), a national inter-faith nonprofit organization delivering programs and services to new Canadians.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo (Hons. BA, MA), Joe is completing his PhD in politics at the University of Glasgow.
Outside of work, he lives in Toronto with his family and two dogs. He insists box lacrosse, played well, is “sublime.”
