Brad brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and extensive contacts from his distinguished 30-year political career, which includes serving in various cabinet positions. His expertise extends to the private sector as well. As Senior Counsel at Sussex, Brad focuses on developing Indigenous Reconciliation Strategies and fostering partnerships to promote Indigenous economic growth and equity opportunities.
Prior to Sussex, Brad served in elected office for almost 23 years (9 years on Scarborough/Toronto City Council, 13 years at Queen’s Park where he held several cabinet posts.
After retiring from politics in 2018, he worked with Canadian entrepreneurial icon, John Risley providing advice to several CFFI companies. He later became an independent consultant. Brad has provided advice to businesses in several sectors including energy, Indigenous relations, construction, health tech, clean tech, cyber security, aerospace and regenerative medicine among others.
Brad’s work involved transforming Ontario’s economic development strategy to compete in the new economy providing him with invaluable knowledge and relationships in Canada’s innovation ecosystem. In fact, his leadership helped navigate MaRs Discovery District through challenging times enabling it to become the innovation hub that it is today.
His leadership also guided the national effort to draft and implement the new Canada Free Trade Agreement, the most ambitious internal or external free trade agreement in Canadian history.
His most passionate work came during his time as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs where his relationship building skills helped transform Ontario’s relationship with Indigenous Communities making Ontario a national leader on Indigenous issues. This work enabled Brad to build friendships with Indigenous leaders and communities that continue to this day.
