Bliss Baker is the founder of Cumberland Strategies which was recently acquired by Sussex Strategy Group where Bliss has assumed the role of Vice Chair. Over the past 30 years, Bliss has been an innovator, practitioner, and commentator in the Public Affairs arena both domestically and internationally.
He has been an advisor to two Prime Ministers, numerous Ministers, Members of Parliament and Cabinet. Bliss has been a senior advisor to several elected officials including Chief of Staff to the Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
Bliss’ private sector experience includes senior executive roles in the banking, renewables, and pipeline industry. Bliss has spearheaded several successful campaigns including rewriting Canada’s biofuels policies, changes to several mining regulations, the passage of environmental legislation, and tax reform in the manufacturing sector to name a few.
His clients include a variety of mining companies, tech companies, energy-related companies, financial services, agriculture, manufacturing, clean technology providers, healthcare stakeholders, and infrastructure-related firms.
Bliss completed his undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Economics in Canada and his post-graduate degree at the London School of Economics in 1992. Bliss sits on a variety of Boards and remains very engaged in the development of public policy both provincially and federally.
Outside of work, Bliss is an avid skier and football (the real football) player and fan.
