Andrew Parsons brings a distinguished record of public service, legal expertise, and strategic leadership to his role as Senior Counsel at Sussex. A former senior cabinet minister in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew offers clients deep insight into legislative, legal, and political processes across Atlantic Canada and nationally.
During his 14-year tenure as MHA for Burgeo-LaPoile, Andrew held several key portfolios, including Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Attorney General, Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology, and Government House Leader. In these roles, he led transformative justice reforms, helped modernize the province’s energy and innovation policy frameworks, and advanced economic development priorities with a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach.
Andrew is widely recognized for his principled leadership, strategic thinking, and ability to navigate complex policy challenges. His experience spans a range of sectors, including natural resources, clean energy, technology, law reform, and regulatory modernization. As a trusted advisor, he brings a nuanced understanding of government decision-making and legislative development, offering clients strategic counsel grounded in both legal rigour and political acumen.
A lawyer by training, Andrew holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick. He is a passionate advocate for Atlantic Canada and brings a national perspective to public affairs and policy strategy. Prior to politics, Andrew was a dedicated volunteer in his community and was recognized multiple times for his commitment across multiple streams of involvement.
Outside of work, Andrew is an avid sports fan, concert goer, and loves spending time at the pool with his family.
