Prime Minister Trudeau Releases Much-Anticipated Supplementary Mandate Letters
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau released his much-anticipated supplementary ministerial mandate letters to the 36 Cabinet Ministers that comprise his government. These are the second round of Trudeau mandate letters since the 2019 election.
Mandate letters elaborate on commitments made during the campaign and throne speeches. They provide insight to the priorities of the government and avenues to tie policy and project asks with priorities. The government will be held accountable for these commitments through tracking and public reports, followed closely by the media and by the public at large.
While the Prime Minister is clear that the overall priorities for this government, such as Indigenous Reconciliation and climate change, remain the same, these supplementary letters include specific language about the duty of Ministers to work to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and manage the issues it has exacerbated.
Sussex will be busy in the days ahead evaluating each mandate letter to identify opportunities to tie client interests – both policies and programs – to these new-public statements on the top priorities for the government in 2021.
