Federal Government Announces Additional Investment in Indigenous Businesses and Releases List of Gas Tax Allocations
Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $133 million in new funding for Indigenous businesses and the Indigenous tourism industry.
The federal government estimates that many of Canada’s 30,000 Indigenous businesses are in sectors hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The investment includes:
- $117 million for community-owned First Nation, Inuit and Métis businesses including microbusinesses, who are not eligible for existing COVID-19 business support measures.
- $16 million to support the Indigenous tourism industry. The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada will administer the fund to businesses that have lost revenue due to COVID-19.
