Sussex Strategy Group to Support the Humanitarian Coalition

Sussex Strategy Group is proud to announce that we have been chosen by the Humanitarian Coalition to provide our communications and advocacy expertise to one of the most important global causes of the millennium.

The Humanitarian Coalition represents a new kind of charitable organization. It is a partnership of five of Canada’s most experienced aid agencies: CARE Canada, Oxfam Canada, Oxfam Quebec, Plan Canada and Save the Children Canada and is a joint appeal mechanism during times of major international crises.

By mobilizing its resources and partnerships with its five member agencies and various major private sector partners including Bell Media, Shaw Media, PayPal, eBay and many others, the Humanitarian Coalition is better able to scale up fundraising and get humanitarian relief to the people who need it most. Instead of competing with each other, they unite together during major emergencies to ensure relief is provided more quickly and efficiently.

For the past ten years, the Humanitarian Coalition has become Canada’s only united choice in times of major international emergencies. The premise is simple: to take the guesswork out of giving and make donating easier.

On June 20, people around the world will be marking World Refugee Day. This year, the crisis is more profound than ever. More than 60 million people have been displaced by war and nearly half of them are children.

In Syria alone, more than half the country’s population has been displaced by civil war – making it the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War.

We have decided to take action. In the coming weeks and months, we will be working with the Humanitarian Coalition to roll out a campaign that will raise awareness of the scale and depth of the refugee crisis - a national day of action on June 20 that will cap off two weeks of intense media exposure, awareness building and fundraising.

For us as a firm, this mandate represents a significant opportunity to work on an issue of global importance - and to make a pro bono contribution of our own - and we are very proud to have been chosen by the Humanitarian Coalition to lead and build this national, impactful and shareable campaign.
